POST-PROFESSIONAL MASTER OF SCIENCE DEGREE

FACULTY

Mary A. Khetani, MA, OTR/L

Course Instructor
Doctoral Candidate, Rehabilitation Sciences
Department of Occupational Therapy
Ms. Khetani earned her B.A. from Marquette University in Psychology and Biomedical Sciences, her M.A. from the University of Southern California in Occupational Therapy, and is a doctoral candidate in Rehabilitation Sciences at Boston University. Her dissertation involves a mixed method approach to examining the characteristics of participation in home and community life among families receiving Part C early intervention services. It will provide a foundation to support her long-term goal of developing a new measure of participation for use in outcomes research in the early intervention field. Her research is influenced most strongly by clinical experiences and working directly with families, coupled with her training in child advocacy as a Vivian Weinstein fellow. These experiences have significantly shaped her interest in the use of assessment in decision-making processes that influence how Part C services are provided. Her current research builds on this and addresses an unmet need in the early intervention field regarding the documentation and evaluation of participation.

By applying her training as an occupational therapist and rehabilitation scientist, Ms. Khetani seeks to contribute to the advancement of the positive development and health of children and families. Towards this end, she is committed to interdisciplinary scholarship that will improve the science of occupational therapy as well as broaden its impact in the field of early intervention. She is a Solnit Fellow through the ZERO TO THREE Leaders for the 21st Century Program (2007-2009) and a Junior Mentor for the Millennium Scholars Program through the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD). She maintains active membership in the International Society for Early Intervention (ISEI) and the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and she currently serves on the review board for the American Journal of Occupational Therapy (AJOT).
